About True Crime
Research Training
True Crime Research Training serves as a resource for those looking to build a career in true crime research and advocacy and for families seeking to advocate for their loved ones. We offer 100% online courses that are accessible, flexible, and expert-led—and we are deeply committed to promoting best practices for ethical, victim-centered true crime work.
Haley Gray, a dedicated true crime researcher, writer, and Credentialed Victim Advocate, founded True Crime Research Training with the mission of equipping people with essential skills for the true crime and advocacy community. After more than a year of curriculum development with certified teacher Andrea Marshbank, the program launched in 2023, providing a learning space where aspiring true crime professionals could gain the tools they need to succeed.
In 2025, Haley partnered with fellow Credentialed Victim Advocate and TCRT COO, Whitney St. Andre, to expand TCRT’s mission by creating The Advocacy Blueprint, a program designed specifically for families of missing and murdered loved ones. Developed in collaboration with Steve and Renee Patten, parents of Morgan Patten, who was murdered in 2019, this program provides families with the tools to navigate the complexities of advocacy and raise awareness for their loved one’s case.

Our Impact
